President & CEO Job Description

California Rice Commission

Overview

The California Rice Commission is seeking candidates to replace a long-term CEO to lead the industry into its next successful decades. The Commission represents the state’s 2,500 rice farmers and 40 marketing organizations that grow and mill rice on 500,000 acres annually. The industry is known to produce world-class medium and short grain rice shipped to 40 countries around the globe and found in nearly every piece sushi consumed in the U.S. California’s rice lands are also widely recognized for the habitat they provide 230 species of wildlife, the food they provide for Pacific Flyway and many innovative working lands programs that support salmon and shorebirds. 

Expectations

The CEO reports to the Executive Committee and will lead and manage a team that implements a comprehensive strategic plan affecting state and federal policy, public perception, on-farm environmental practices and regulatory compliance for the benefit of the industry. The position requires outstanding leadership, strategic planning and implementation and significant programmatic work. The successful candidate will excel beyond the current CEO and build upon the industry’s success in working lands programs that bring value to growers and differentiate it in the minds of Californians.

Location & Compensation

The Commission’s offices are in Sacramento, California. Staff work within driving distance for weekly staff meetings, members meetings and to conduct business with state agencies. The Commission utilizes a hybrid remote work environment when not meeting in the Sacramento Valley. 

Compensation and benefits are competitive.
